'The Tree of Man' - Andrew Spark
the SWICH Contemporary Art Space is pleased to announce the upcoming solo exhibition, the tree of man, by local contemporary artist, Andrew Spark.
Exhibition dates:
6 - 17 March, 2012
* EXCLUSIVE OPENING NIGHT EVENT
Thursday 3 March 2012
6-8pm
PLEASE NOTE: This is an exclusive opening night event and numbers will be capped, therefore RSVP is essential.
The tree of man is a captivating new series of large-scale photographic works teeming with signifiers, obvious and not so, that rouse connotations of Big Brother conspiracies, theories of social identity, and critiquing the gaze through exquisite imagery of the masculine form. Underlying controversy is eminent in his work yet Spark holds back from overt and over the edge imagery allowing us to pose our own questions of dominance, nonconformity, and liberty. Ultimately, this series is suggestive of controversial and celebrated art photographers such as Man Ray and Mapplethorpe, yet is distinctively Spark!
Please note that this exhibition contains nudity and concepts that may not be suitable for children.
Gallery hours:
Tue-Fri: 9-4
Sat: 9-2
